Milestones

1952: The Y’s Men’s Club of Trivandrum was organized by Mr. Eddy of the National Council of YMCAs of India and was sponsored by the Y’s Men’s Club of Nagarcoil and  inaugurated on 20th October 1952 with 23 members. 

1956: In March 29, the club chartered, and the Charter was presented to the club by Ym. Henry Grimes, the International Secretary /  Treasurer.  

1958: Hosted India-Ceylon Regional convention. 

1960-61: Played a very important role in raising funds for the construction of the new YMCA building at TVM. Helped to from a H-Y club with 20 students in the Trivandrum YMCA. Membership became 40. Club President A. Narayana Pillai visited USA as a BF delegate. 

1963-64: Number of members reached 50. 

1966-67: Our Club sponsored the first child the Y’s Men’s Club of Quilon. 

1967-68: Number of members reached 84, became one of the largest number of members in Y’dom. Helped 3 filarial patients, who underwent re-construction surgery. 

1970-71: Ym. Justin, member of our club was elected as the RSD. The Y’s Menette’s Club was inaugurated on may 27th. The first Y’s Lings Club, first ever in the world was inaugurated on 22nd July. Ym. Justin V was the President at this period. 

1971-72: Started the program of feeding over 200 malnourished children daily with bread and milk and carried out till 1977. 

1972-73: A seminar orgnised by our club on education was held in Trivandrum, which paved wau for certain education reforms. 

1974-75: We planted shade trees seedlings around the gallery of the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, Trivandrum, some of them still serving by giving shade, others were cut when the modern gallery was constructed on west side. 

1977-78: Regular monthly medical camp was conducted at the Aruvikkara YMCA Centre. International President Ym. Bruce Price and his menette visited our Club. 

1978-79: Ym. Dr. Sukumran became RD. International President Ym. Christian Bach Iverson, International Secretary General Ym. Bjorn Pederson and two BF delegates visited the club. Y’s Men’s Club of Trivandrum North and a club in Nagarcoil were organized. 

1981-82: The first phase of the Thirumala YMCA building was completed with the financial help from Sweden- Finland Region, of Y’s men’s International. 

1982-83: Arranged a community marriage for five poor girls as the major service project for that year. 

1983-84: The Second phase of the Thirumala YMCA building was completed with the financial help from Sweden- Finland Region, of Y’s men’s International. Ym. Dr. Sukumaran became the first President of the India Area which came to existence on 1st July 1983. 

1985-86: The Trivandrum Tower club was organized. 

1986-87: Ym. Dr. Sukumaran served as the first International President from India. 

1988-89: Erected ten concrete benches at the Trivandrum Central Railway Station. 

1991-92: Club didi to achieve top position under the regional theme ‘Job to the jobless”. 

1992-93: A medical awareness camp was conducted at Poovar, more than 1500 persons attended. 

1995-96: Free medicines and spectacles worth Rs. 10,000/- was distributed to over 500 persons, who attend the medical camp at Vettinadu YMCA Centre. 

1996-97: Our Club raised and donated Rs. 50,000 to a poor 19 year old youth to meet the expenses of a surgery for Aortic Valve replacement. A blood donors forum of 25 members was organized and donated blood to the deserving. Received a  TOF grant of Rs. 3,25,000/- and constructed drinking water and modern toilet facilities in the Pirappancode Govt. High school spending Rs. 4,90,000/- as the Silver Jubilee project of Y’s Lings club of Trivandrum. 

1997-98: A telephone booth was donated to a physically handicapped youth in front of the causality ward of the Women and Children’s Hospital, Thycadu, Trivandrum. Spend Rs. 22,400 to make two houses for the homeless. 

2001-2002: Ylg. Tony Rajan Mathew served as Youth Intern ate Geneva, Switzerland.

2009-2010: Ym. Rajan Panicker served as the Area President, India Area. India Area became the largest area in the world during his period.
